The Articulum
2014
h 9' x w 13' x d 10'
CNC cut plywood, acrylic, color-changing LEDs

For this piece I adapted a woodworking method called knock down joinery. It fit the need for the work to be portable and to eliminate the need for metal fasteners. Milled from plywood by a CNC robot, the pieces were finished by hand and could be packed flat for storage and transportation. Installation could be accomplished with little more than a rubber mallet.

The Articulum was inspired by the need to create a sense of an autonomous zone that contained the potential for creativity. Participants danced, took photos, and were performative when they passed through it.
